Tane Mahuta

Hi everyone!
For Week 1 Day 2 Activity 1 in the Summer Learning Journey, I have to say if I would visit the tallest Kauri tree, Tane Mahuta or Lord of the forest, in the northland.

I would like to visit Tane Mahuta in the Northland because I can't remember the last time I saw a kauri tree and I don't see Kauri trees very often.

I hope you enjoyed my blogpost. Blog you later!

  2. Kia ora Jaimie,

I agree with you, I would love to visit Tane Mahuta. I would love to see how tall and wide the tree is. I am sure it is home to many beautiful birds and animals. I could imagine that you would find some kereru's high up in the branches. What kind of birds would you expect to see up there?

I read on the Department of Conservation website that according to Maori legends, Tane Mahuta is known as the son of Papatuanuku (the earth mother) and Ranginui (the sky father). This is why the beautiful, legendary tree is so tall because it is reaching up to his father.

I am looking forward to see many more great posts from you.

    Ka kite,
    Megan :)
