Christchurch Special Assembly

Hi everyone. I am back!
On Monday the 18th of March, our school had a special assembly to remember the ones who died the Friday before. Over 50 people got killed in Christchurch at both Masjid Al Noor and Linwood Masjid Mosque. All of the school made cards for the people in Christchurch.
My class made cards for:
Christchurch Police Force

Christchurch Hospital

Christchurch Ambulance Association

Majid Al Noor Mosque

Linwood Masjid Mosque

Local Schools

In the school hall, we sang The National Anthem. Then we went outside. We then sang one of our very important school songs called Aotearoa. The principal called up everyone with a different culture and those people got to get a shovel and put some dirt in a hole around the new kowhai tree that we planted. It sat next to our Friendship Bench to remind us that we are one. And then some people got to put the cards around the tree. We stood in silence holding hands for 1 whole minute.
Here are some photos from the day:

Later on in the week, we had to decide on a goal to stop racism. Here is mine:

The Senior Syndicate Treaty

Kia Ora, everybody I am back! This week, the Senior Sydicate at Waikowhai Primary School have made a Treaty. The Treaty of Waitangi inspired us to make this. One of our classmates bringing a fountain pen to use to sign the treaty full stop the five articles that we made up for the treaty was responsibilities at home, people, property, learning and safety. We had to make two laws for each article. The Year Six girls had to make up 2 laws for the article learning, the Year 6 boys got the article safety, the Year Five boys got the article people and the Year 5 girls got the article property. One of the teachers in the senior syndicate made up the article responsibilities at home. Here are some photos of the Treaty and the signing ceremony.

This week I learnt to swim on my side with my arm out. I learnt this at Cameron pools. when we do this we have to use a scissor kick. We also have to put our ear in the water in front of our shoulder. It is really easy and fun.

The Week Of Inspirational Math

Hi everybody,  This is Jaimie and I am back! Today, I will be sharing with you what we've been doing in this week of inspirational math. The week of inspirational math is where, in class in maths time we have to watch a video of a maths task. The tasks are really fun but can sometimes be really  challenging. I really enjoyed the week of inspirational math because it really challenges me and that's really important to me. The challenge that I will be sharing with you is a challenge called the 1 - 20 challenge.

The 1 - 20 challenge is a challenge where you have to make a table with the numbers one to twenty on it and you have to use four 4s  with any operation to make a number in the table.
An operation is multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. We had to work in groups of four. Here is my work with my group.

The green writing was the work of me, the orange writing was the work of Ehsan, the red writing was the work of Jonathan and the blue writing was the work of Ayva.

We also got to explore using Chrome music lab. This is something on Chrome where you can create music and have real fun. On Chrome music lab we got to try  Kandinsky mode on Chrome music lab. Kandinsky is an artist, so on this mode we got to paint music. If you draw a circle it would turn into a person who would sing a note.

Welcome back to 2019!

Hi everyone! I am back!
2019 has been an outstanding year so far. In my first blog post of 2019 I will be sharing with you, my pepeha and my responsibilities as a Year 5 in 2019.
I'll start off my responsibilities.

My first responsibility that I have signed up for is being a librarian. This means I have to issue and return books from the school library. Another job in the library when I am not issuing or returning books is to put books up on the shelf and check that every one is respecting the books. I also have to show up on my day and be committed.
My second responsibility is to be in the Jump Jam team. This means that when we do Jump Jam I have to be at the front leading everyone.
I am also in Choir. I have also signed up for football.
Now, onto my pepeha. Here is my pepeha for 2019:
