Film Festival

Hi everybody, I am back!
Last term, some people got to pick if they wanted to be in the Film Festival group or the technology group. I chose to be in the Film Festival. Film Festival is where you enter a competition in the Ako Hiko Schools. In a group, you have to make a movie that is 3 minutes long. Every year they have a theme that everyone's movie is about. This year our theme is 'Heroes'. But not superwoman or superman; community heroes. For example, firefighters, police officers, ambulance staff, hospital staff and people who help in the classroom can all be heroes.

My group is me, Neeve, Brittany and Chimay. Our movie is about the olympics. I fall in the race and Brittany helps me up instead of crossing the finish line. These are the names we made up for the movie and the characters.
Name         |Character         |Character Name     |
             |                  |                   |
Neeve        |Commentator       |Millie Robertson   |
             |                  |                   |
Me           |Athlete           |Charlotte Patterson|
             |                  |                   |
Brittany     |Athlete           |Katey Smith        |
             |                  |                   |
Chimay       |Cameraman/Medal   |Amanda Hall        |
             |Presenter         |                   |

We are almost finished filming and are starting on sound effects. Please let me know in the comments if you are in Film Festival too or just write a normal comment.

Vegetable Smackdown

Hi everyone. I am back!
Last week, the seniors did a vegetable smack down. A smackdown is where you have to share what you have learnt in just 1 minute! We got put into pairs. My buddy was Peter. (His Blog)
Then, we had to find information about the vegetable we were given. Me and Peter were given a swede.

After that, we had to put all of the info that we found out onto a google drawing. Our main goal was to put on the google drawing, what the nutritional value of the vegetable is. Here is me and Peter's google drawing:

Our Google Drawing

Then, we had to screenshot our google drawing and put it onto the smack down slideshow.
I hope you enjoyed my blog post.

The Kaweau; Giant Lizard

Hi everyone!
Welcome to Term 3 2019! I hope you all had a great holidays!

For Term 2 reading, I am in Blood Bottlers and my group is Maroon. In Term Two all of the groups in Blood Bottlers (Maroon, Magenta, Orange and Cyan) got set a novel/chapter book to read.
Cyan's book was The Secret of Jelly Mountain by Des Hunt
Magenta's book was Cool! by Michael Morpurgo
Orange's book was Bow Down Shadrach by Joy Cowley
... And Maroon's book was A Friend In Paradise by Des Hunt

We also got work to do on this novel that we were given.
Maroon's work was to describe one of the characters; Robbie. We described Robbie with a describe map. We also had two sets of Comprehension Questions to do about the book. Here is all of my work:
Click on the links to look at them.

Comprehension Questions 2

Robbie Describe Map

I really enjoyed the book. It was an amazing one with loads of adventure in it. My favourite part was when Robbie saved Puku; the kaweau, from drowning. At that point, Robbie had just passed out from White Island Volcano's poisonous fumes. But, Robbie cared about Puku and her babies so much that he use up all of his energy just to save them.

Thank you for reading my blog! I hope you enjoyed it. Please leave a comment below.

Personal Response

Hi Bloggers! I am back!

On Friday, the 24th of May (A day after my 10th birthday), the senior syndicate from Waikowhai Primary School marched and protested down Queen St.

We were marching in the Climate Change March. A few days before the march, we made signs. We got to pick a partner and in pairs, we made a design and then got onto the real thing. Anyway, I will blog post about what happened at the march soon.

This is what I am really blogging about today. After the march, we had to do a personal response about it. We had to say three things for each column.
The columns are:

- What you were surprised about
- What you liked
- What you didn't like
- What you would change
- What made you think about
- What you didn't understand

If you would like to check out my personal response, then click here.

I hope you enjoyed my personal response.

Student Toolkits 2019

Talofa lava everyone! I am back!!!

At the beginning of Term 2, one of the senior syndicate teachers, Miss Daly picked 24 Year 5 and 6 students to go to Student Toolkits. Year 5 and 6 students from all of the Ako Hiko schools were getting picked to go to Student Toolkits. This year, Hay Park School was hosting Student Toolkits so it was happening there. All of the Ako Hiko schools were doing this to share their learning with the other schools. This way, all of the Ako Hiko schools were learn new things. The actual student toolkits was happening on the 28th of May 2019.

Miss Daly paired everyone up in the Student Toolkits group. I was put with Ari. Between the pairs, everyone had to make a presentation on showing how to use something that we have learnt about. We could either show people how to make an animation using Google Slides or you could show people how to use Chrome Music Lab. Me and Ari chose to do a presentation on how to make a Google Animation. It took us a couple of weeks and then Miss Daly checked all of the presentation and chose two pairs to be presenters at the Student Toolkits. A presenter would show others how to make or use something using their presentation. Miss Daly had checked everyones' work and had made her choice. She picked Noah and Toby because Toby had done it the year before so he knew what to do. Toby and Noah had picked to do animations and Miss Daly wanted one pair of presenters to do Chrome Music Lab and another to do Google Animations. The other pair of presenters were........
Me and Ari!!!
Though, Toby and Noah had done animations and so had we?! So, Miss Daly asked us to do a new presentation. But on Chrome Music Lab. So me and Ari got to work.

A day before Student Toolkits, our slide was ready. On Student Toolkits day, we all got transported by car to Hay Park School. My first session was Sphero Heroes. Spheros are little robotic balls that you can control.
It was Christ the King school showing us how to use a Sphero. We controlled the Sphero using an ipad. It was so cool!!

The next session was me and Ari as presenters. I felt nervous presenting but it was also very exciting. Here are some photos of me and Ari presenting:

And my last session was Droning High. There was only 3 drones so everyone got into a group of 3 and each group had to take turns on playing with the drone. The people that were waiting, played with Spheros. Unfortunately, my group didn't get a turn with the drones because the propeller  on the drone we were about to use was broken. Though, I got to finish some things.
Here are some other photos from the day:

I loved Student Toolkits! I can't wait until next year!!!
