Skateboarding

Kia ora, bloggers,

I am back!

Have you ever learnt to skateboard? Well, we did!

We had some skateboarding lessons today and if was fantastic! We had two coaches; Laurence and Ben. They taught us some different skills to improve our skateboarding. Some of the skills they taught us included tic-tacs, turning, stopping and picking up speed.

We also played a game called What's up, Wolf? How you play this game is the wolf is on a skateboard and they start the game by saying "What's up, wolf pack?". The wolf pack then replies "What's up, wolf?". Then, the game begins. The wolf will skate towards the line at the other end of the court. The wolf pack have to follow behind, getting ready to stop when needed and trying not to overtake the wolf. If they do overtake the wolf, they have to go back 8 pushes on the skateboard.

Occasionally, the wolf will turn around, and everyone has to stop. If they don't stop and the wolf catches them, then they have to go back 4 pushes on the skateboard. After a few stops and goes, the wolf will shout out "Dinner time!" Between the wolf pack, it's a race to the line. Whoever gets over the line on their skateboard becomes the next wolf.

I loved the What's Up, Wolf game! It was so fun! I also loved learning new skills like tic-tacs. I am now pretty confident with a skateboard and I think that's great!

I'm really excited for the next session. Here are some photos:

My Recipe

 Hey bloggers,

I am back!

During lockdown, the teachers made a slideshow for us to put some family recipes on. They could be simple recipes or just normal ones. I did a recipe for the Scrambled Eggs that our family makes. We make it with different herbs, like parsley and other things, too. Down below is an image of my recipe, too.

Make sure to try my recipe out and let me know what you think about it? Was it easy to understand? Delicious to eat? Let me know what you think!

Retelling a Story: The Seven Sisters of Matariki

Hey bloggers,
I am back!
This week Te Waka Ako have been retelling the story of Matariki.
First, we had to read the book, The Seven Sisters of Matariki.

Then, we did a storyboard of the events that had happened in the story.

After that, we retold the story of Matariki in our own words. Here is my retelling of the story:

I really enjoyed this task and got it finished pretty quickly. If you are free, please take the time to read my story. Have you ever done a writing task where you had to retell a story?

Matariki Celebration

Hey bloggers,
Yesterday, Te Waka Ako did a Matariki Celebration. We went around to each activity in classes.
These were the activities:
 - Kite Making with Mrs Law
 - Making Stop Motion Movies with Miss Daly
 - Making Fried Bread with Mrs Jones

The first activity that my class (Manukau) did was making fried bread. We had to go to the bathrooms and wash our hands, first. Then, when we came back, we had to get in groups of 6. These are the people that were in my group.
 - Martin
 - Masi
 - Me!
Then, we got given a bowl, a stirring spoon and a chopping board. First, we had to put 3 1/2 cups of Self-Raising flour into the bowl. Then, we added small amounts of water and stirred until it was the right consistency. After that, we kneaded the dough and rolled it flat. Then, I cut it into 6 pieces and we carved our initials into the dough. After that, we fried the dough in oil. After flipping the pieces over a couple of times, the bread was ready to eat. We chose to either have butter, golden syrup or nutella on the fried bread. I chose nutella.
It was delicious!

The second activity we did was making stop motion movies. We could make a stop motion movie about Matariki or another Maori legend. I was in a group with Martin, Genevieve and Aysha. We chose to do a movie on the legend, How Maui Slowed the Sun.
We could choose to make the characters out of either playdough or paper. We didn't have enough time to add audio, but that was fine. If you were wondering, Stop Motion is when you take photos of different things and moving them slightly in-between. When you play it, it will look like the characters are moving.

The third and final activity was Kite Making with Mrs Law. The kites we were making were decorative kites, not ones to fly. We had to draw patterns and colour it in on a strip of paper. 2 people got chosen to make the frame of a mini kite and 4 people got chosen to hot glue the strips of paper onto the big kite frame. Those 4 people were me, Genevieve, Martin and Demetrius. It was great fun doing it! One funny thing that happened was that Martin put a bit of hot glue on the back of one of the strips and Genevieve started rubbing her finger around in it. Then, 2 seconds later, the glue set so Genevieve started waving her hand about to try and get the paper off her finger. In the end, she had to the scissors and cut it off!

Creative Writing

Hi everyone! I am back!
In Week 7, Te Waka Ako started to do some Creative Writing. Creative Writing is when you can write whatever you want; you can have chapters or no chapters and it can be any type of writing like a narrative or a recount. We also had to choose an image for the story to be based around.

I chose for my story to have chapters and to be a narrative. A narrative is a made-up story; which usually contains fantasy, magical creatures or things that can't happen in reality. My story is about trolls that have a game of football every century to decide who owns the troll land; but something goes wrong in the story that may prevent The Enchanted Saplings from winning.

Post Lockdown Creations Slideshow Take 5!

Hey bloggers!
I am back!
This week, Te Waka Ako have been working on our Post Lockdown Creations Slideshow. This is our 5th time doing the slideshow. I think it is really cool because I have to insert a picture or screenshot of the work I have completed, write what subject it is, add a brief description of the task and write a reflection of the day. Here is my Post Lockdown Creations Slideshow Take 5!

Lockdown Diary 2020

Lockdown Diary 2020

Hi everyone! I am back!'
Over the Covid-19 Lockdown Period, Te Waka Ako worked on a Lockdown Diary. Stephen McCarthy originally came up with the idea of a lockdown diary. We filled in 1 or 2 slides every day in lockdown. There were activities like drawing what you had for diner and write down what it tasted like. You had to write a poem and then go read it to someone. There was one slide where you could write whatever you wanted to write! My favourite slide was the one where you had to write a note to yourself in the future. I liked it because when I am older, I get to look back at it and remember that the note was from 10 year old me. At the end, you had to sum up lockdown for future kids. Have a look at my lockdown diary:
